Here are some useful links intended to connect you to things that you may have hoped to find here but didn't.  The list is far from exhaustive.  If there's a site you think I should include, let me know. ebender@ucsd.edu.

General

• The New American Dream at www.newdream.org is a very good site. For consumer products and information, go directly to www.newdream.org/consumer/marketplace.php as well as checking out the sites for specific areas that I've listed below.

• Buyer Be Fair  at buyerbefair.org/find_products.html has a list of sites with a paragraph on each of them.

• Co-op America publishes a National Green Pages. Go to coopamerica.org/pubs/greenpages.

Office Products  I discussed paper and wooden furniture.  A variety of office products are made from recycled materials or in other eco-friendly ways.

• Recycled Products Cooperative at www.recycledproducts.org has smaller office products.

• Dolphin Blue at www.dolphinblue.com has mostly smaller office products.

Fair Trade Products

• Green Seal at www.greenseal.org has certified a variety of products, but does not sell any.

• Great Green Goods at greatgreengoods.com has a variety of products.

• Organic Exchange at www.organicexchange.org for organic cotton product sources. (Regular cotton production involves lots of pesticide use.)

• Naturally Home at naturallyhome.com for cleaning and personal care products on line.

Homes There are a variety of businesses selling products to make homes more eco-friendly.  Here are some information sources.

• Eco Timber sells flooring to dealers and has links to sources of flooring and other information at ecotimber.com

Carbon Neutral Sites have calculators for your CO₂ production and ways to subsidize reforestation, CO₂-free power generation, etc. They cover home energy use and travel by auto or plane.

Travel  "Eco-travel" is a growing vacation industry.  There are also eco-friendly places to stay and ways to pay for the CO₂ you generate by travel and otherwise.

• Eco-friendly lodging Rather than list a variety of links that may change, here are some lists.

  • Green Lodging News at www.greenlodgingnews.com/GreenAssociations.aspx has a list and comments

  • Green Seal at www.greenseal.org has developed a standard and lists certified properties.
     

• Eco-tourism  Don't assume it's good. See "Good Gone Wild", Science News 170 (10/30/06) pp.218-219, for some bad consequences.

  • Travel Choices has eco-tours. Go to www.travelchoices.com and search on ecotourism.

  • Lonely Planet has information on the www.lonelyplanet.com/responsibletravel part of its website.

Blogs and Forums are too numerous to list even a fraction. The various sites I've mentioned may have forums. Here are more.

•  Grassroots at www.grassroots.org has information and forums on a variety of topics.

The Oceans are discussed on various sites, some of which can be found on my seafood page.

Global Warming information and action has received a lot of attention, especially since Al Gore's movie.  Search the web.  If you want an article with basic information, look at "The Thirteenth Tipping Point" in the 11/06 issue of Mother Jones magazine.
